. THOUGHTS: DREAM: WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY?
for months we've been buying christmas lottery
and quietly imagining what we'd do if we actually won.
well, today was the day.
and i didn't win a single euro. none of my friends did.
so it was a fun morning of crashing dreams.
laughs with a distant rumble of glass breaking inside every head.
We've talked about how we didn't really need the money, and how it's not such a huge prize, "you wouldn't be able to retire and live a happy jobless life"...

yeah yeah, we knew it was almost impossible but... that's the thing about the lottery,
it makes you hopeful and lets your imagination fly.
with that idea they created this year "The square of Dreams" in Madrid.
where people would go, write down their plans for the lottery prize in a little paper, and they would appear written on the huge balloons installed there.
The effect was amazing.

Si señores, hoy NO nos ha tocado el gordo.
En la oficina nos hemos reído todos y hemos contado lo que habríamos hecho si hubiésemos ganado,
Hemos comentado que tampoco el gordo da para tanto.. "No te da para retirarte", como queriendo convencernos de que en realidad tampoco seríamos más felices, pero de lejos se oía un ruido como de cristales rompiéndose, de ilusiones inocentes chocando contra el asfalto.
YA.. En el fondo sabíamos que no nos iba a tocar, pero es lo que tiene la lotería,
la ilusión.
Con esta idea, se creó este año "la plaza de los Sueños" en Callao. Donde la gente podía escribir sus ilusiones en un papel, y éstas aparecían sobre unos enormes globos de colores allí situados.
El efecto era impresionante.

.i watched a very interesting documentary yesterday about planned obsolescence
which would be a policy of deliberately planning or designing a product with a limited useful life, so it will become obsolete or nonfunctional after a certain period.

He is one of the most important industrial designers in the world. With a very simple explanation (given in the 60's)he defines what Markets are all about even nowadays and dissipates the halo of conspiracy that planned obsolescence may have.
"Planned obsolescence is the desire on the part of the consumer to own something a little newer a little better a little sooner than it's necessary".
"unlike the european's approach of the past, where they tried to make the very best product and make it last forever, meaning you bought such a fine suit you were married in it and then buried in it, and never had a chance to renew it.
The approach in America is one of making the consumer unhappy with the product that he has enjoyed the use of, for a period, have it passed it on to the second hand market and obtain the newest product with the newest possible look".

Habla sobre planificación o programación del fin de la vida útil de un producto o servicio de modo que este se torne obsoleto, no funcional, inútil o inservible tras un período de tiempo calculado de antemano, por el fabricante o empresa de servicios, durante la fase de diseño de dicho producto.
Pero lo que más me ha impresionado ha sido la visión de Brooks Stevens sobre el tema. Este diseñador industrial de los años 60, uno de los más importantes e influyentes del mundo,
con unas sencillas palabras, explica el funcionamiento de los Mercados de hoy en día, y disipa ese halo de conspiración que parece tener la obsolescencia programada.
"La Obsolescencia programada no es más que el deseo por parte del consumidor de poseer algo un poco más nuevo, un poco mejor, un poco antes de que sea necesario".
"A diferencia de la aproximación de los europeos del pasado, que intentaban crear el mejor producto y hacerlo duradero para siempre, lo que significaba que comprabas un traje tan bueno que te casabas con él y te enterraban con él, sin haber tenido la posibilidad de renovarlo.
"La aproximación de América, es hacer al consumidor infeliz con el producto que ha usado y disfrutado durante un período de tiempo, desplazarlo al mercado de segunda mano y obtener el producto más nuevo con la apariencia más moderna".
